Venezuelan Jewish Leader Says Anti-Semitism Has ‘Exploded’ in Recent Years in Latin America

the Algemeiner May 1, 2014

NOTE: I've been worried about the rising Latin and South American anti semitism for years. This article just adds to my worries. Once again we're losing a propaganda and media war. Will Aliyah be the only answer?

Sammy Eppel, activist and director of The Commission for Human Rights at B’nai B’rith Venezuela, said on Monday that anti-Semitism in Latin America has significantly increased in recent years.
“The problem is that there is big damage that has been done in the last 12, 10  years,” he said. “I was born in Venezuela and I lived there all my life and I never felt anti-Semitism from anybody… we were never discriminated and all of a sudden in 2004, it explodes.”
Eppel made his comments as a panelist at a special conference held at the United Nations in honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day.
In 2006, he said, the Venezuelan Jewish community had to open an office and hire five professionals to monitor anti-Semitism in government and government-sponsored media.
In April 2011, while former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez was in Cuba undergoing treatment for various health problems, a correspondent for Venezuela’s national radio, Radio Nacional de Venezuela, did a series of programs promoting theProtocols of the Elders of Zion. The book, which is the second most printed publication in the Arab world after the Koran, describes a popular anti-Semitic notion that the Jewish people are planning global domination. The book is also available at book fairs in Venezuela promoted by the government, Eppel added.

No, you shouldn’t have visited Arafat’s grave

March 21, 2014, 11:07 am TIMES OF ISRAEL BY JOSH HASTEN

Dear Harvard College Israel Trek 2014 – #Israeltrek2014 participants,
As you well know by now, your current trip to Israel has drawn international attention and media coverage.  While a group of college students traipsing through the Jewish State is probably not worthy of such focus, your visit to Ramallah and specifically your smiley group photo at the grave of Yasser Arafat, the father of modern-day terrorism, has drawn condemnation from many (myself included).
At the same time your organizers on the ground in Israel, as well as your sponsors back in Boston including Hillel and the CJP (Combined Jewish Philanthropies, under the umbrella of the US Jewish Federation system), have vociferously defended your itinerary, and have made a point to attack those who have come out against your visit, labeling them/us as fringe extremists.
I have read all of your explanations, justifications, clarifications, etc. for the smiley gravesite photo, and frankly I’m just not impressed.
While you claim to be fully aware that Arafat was behind countless Israeli deaths, I want to go over his abridged resume of mass murder just one more time to be sure you have the facts. Also, since you are representing a US institution, it’s important to note how many American citizens are dead as a result of Arafat’s murderous ways.
As chairman of the PLO, Arafat was responsible for (or linked to):
  • The murder of 12 Israeli Olympians during the 1972 Munich games
  • The murder of the United States ambassador to the Sudan, Cleo Noel, in 1973
  • The bombing of the United States Marines barracks in Beirut in 1983 that killed 241 people
  • The hijacking of the Achille Lauro cruise ship in 1985 and the murder of hostage Leon Klinghoffer
  • The Oslo War (2nd intifada) that claimed the lives of over 1,000 Israeli civilians and soldiers, including US citizens
But you probably knew all that, right? If not, you do now.

Can we be any clearer?

Later today:

Netanyahu blasts ‘hypocrisy’ of the West on Iranian arms cache

Surrounded by a cache of missiles, part of an alleged Iranian arms shipment to the Gaza Strip seized on board the Klos-C last week, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu harshly rebuked the international community Monday for clinging to what he said was the illusion of a changed Iran, even after an Israeli raid to intercept the ship uncovered the cache of advanced arms

Before making his statement, Netanyahu was briefed by military officials among the rows of weapons, marked with Iranian seals, neatly arrayed at the port. The arms, the officials said, included M-302 missiles with a range of up to 160-kilometers (100 miles). The officials said the Iranian-shipped, Syrian-made missiles were capable of causing more damage than the Iranian-made M-75 or Fajr-5 missiles used by Hamas against Israel in the past.  KEEP READING HERE

UN: Iran has executed at least 80 people in 2014

Most convictions were for drug-related offenses, according to Human Rights Group

by Times of Israel February 21, 2014 at 10:19 PM

Almost 625 were executed last year for similar minor offences.

Read the report here:

Editor: I have a question: How soon will it take for students at leading Universities across America and Europe to organize a BOYCOTT movement to ISOLATE and SHAME the IRANIAN LEADERSHIP? Where are the rallies? The posters? The outrage by spoiled rich kids?
